Google Analytics Setup
If you love stats of how many people are using your online booking site or want to track your marketing success for online ads, you can use Google Analytics.
If you don’t have a Google Analytics account already, your first step will be to sign up for a free account. You can Sign Up Here.
Google has great guide documentation to help you through the sign-up process, step by step: Get Started with Analytics.
Google requires you to set up a new Property specifically for your Click4Time online booking site. This Click4Time property will have its own Tracking ID, separate from the one for your main business website.
Create an Analytics Property
To create a new Property, go to the Admin area of your Google Analytics Account and head to the Property section of the Account related to your company website and choose + Create Property.
In the Property setup screens, name your property. Name your property so it is easily identified as related to tracking the booking calendar metrics. Something like “Booking Calendar” would work well.
You will also set your timezone, currency and some basic business info to create the property.
Once the property is created, depending if you’re using Google Analytics 3 or 4, the next step will be a bit different. For Analytics 4 you will need to setup a Stream, which helps Google identify the type of device or platform being tracked.
Choose Web as the platform.
In the Web data stream, set the Website URL to be the address of your client booking calendar. You can find that address in Click4Time by going to the side menu “Marketing > Booking Calendar Link” page.
The part of the address you will need to copy is “book.click4time.com/YourBusinessName”, no need for the https:// or /book/step1/
Once you have your Google Tracking/Measurement ID, enter it into Click4Time Google Analytics section in Marketing > Analytics Tracking.
How to Track Goals/Events
To track visitor actions as Conversion Goals or Events in Google Analytics, you will need to create a Goal/Event in your Google Analytics Property.
You can track 2 types of Goals:
Visit – Someone arrived at any of the client calendar pages.
Completed Booking – Someone completed the booking process and successfully submitted the booking form.
Analytics V4
To setup an Event, go to the Admin area of your Google Analytics Account and head to Data Streams under the Booking Calendar Property.
Click the Booking Calendar Data Stream and then choose the Create Custom Events option.
Name the event something like “Completed-booking”. In the Matching conditions use the following:
Parameter = page_location
Operator = contains
Value = /book/step1 or /book/success
You’re now ready to start tracking traffic to the booking calendar in your Google Analytics. Happy reporting!!
